Hi Team,
Is there a possibility that we can move the next group meeting to Thursday Nov@ 5pm or in the evening time? I just rechecked my calendar and already have a prior commitment that will be taking my place during the Friday evening spot. Our next meeting will be next Friday (11/5) at 5pm.

Please post everything on Google Docs as you are working on it so that Peter can begin editing. Final drafts must be posted by November 10th.

Skype Meeting Tonight

Hi Team #4,
Just a reminder that we will be having our team meeting tonight from 8-9 pm on Skype.
This will be a time to flush out ideas for the second part of our paper. Please take a look at the Strategic Plan Part 2 Goals posted on Google docs if you haven't already done so.
This is mainly what we will be working on.
Everyone will be asked for their ideas so have a few in mind for each goal and objective.

Monday Meeting Notes

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to quickly cover what was decided at our Monday meeting.

Mary and Silvia will be writing the abstract, intro part to the paper, and annotated bibliography.

Jennifer and Kate will be writing the bulk of the goals and objectives section of the paper, with possibly some assistance from other team members (like Peter maybe helping us with the technology section).

Peter will be working with all of us closely to make sure that there is no overlap in the sections and editing the paper.

We will be meeting on Friday from 8 - 9pm.

Hi Team,
These are goals that we feel are important for the paper. Kate did a nice job pulling these out from the Strat. Plan Part 1 and I went ahead and added comments for the sections. Please take a look at these and brainstorm suggestions for some of the sections- see comments in red. We will be discussing them at the next meeting on Friday Oct 29 from 8-9pm. THANKS!

Goal 1: Develop and diversify library collections, programs, and services to satisfy a broadening range of residents’ needs and interests and engage all segments of the community
Objectives:
1.1 Explore partnerships with community organizations to provide programs and services for speakers of other languages. More bilingual books @ Cole, incorporate Spanish traditions.
1.2 Explore expansion of e-book collection (what do we currently have?and what might be some good titles to include.)
1.3 other ideas for growing needs in the community? Senior services and programs, visually impaired materials, job workshops/career speakers

Goal 2: Ensure that the library information technology systems support community needs to create an optimal customer experience.
Objectives:
2.1 Partner with the city’s Information Technology Department to maintain adequate bandwidth for public computing needs- we have been experiencing problems with our internet here the last few weeks so this would be a great topic to include.
2.2 Expand pilot laptop loaner program to increase computer availability (hopefully Peter can provide us with a bit of info here.)
2.3 Explore alternatives for improved public computer access- more computers, possible solution: have children’s computers available to adults during the morning hours. Get more suggestions from the team!

Goal 3: Update and improve staff tools, technology, and internal processes to optimize use of staff resources.
Objectives:
3.1 Along with other city departments, explore creation of a knowledge management Intranet for staff
3.2 Establish staff training program that ensures consistent, standard, skill sets and encourages employees’ professional growth (more training on technology)
3.3 Develop succession plans to minimize knowledge gaps and prepare for staff retirements (So far I think that this will be the most difficult to write about… I don’t have much knowledge about what our library does to prepare for retirements.)

Goal 4: Make aesthetic improvements to the library to provide a more enjoyable and inviting place for the community. (I personally think this is one of the more important goals… however it means my library would have to spend money and given that we are in a bit of a budget crisis -we would have to take that into account when composing this section)
Objectives:
4.1 Invest in new carpet, chairs, and curtains
4.2 Enforce rules to prohibit any food or drink in the library, have a designated area for food and drink, etc. (this would keep the library clean and save $ on cleaning costs)
4.3 Install working air conditioning unit (we currently have one that works(not well)- but maybe a more efficient model or one that can cool certain areas of the library when it becomes unbearable)
4.4 other ideas... reorganize library to make room for teen space, create quiet study area, etc. Hopefully we can get some suggestions from other team mates on this one. I think the teen area really needs some help. ( I will see about getting a picture of the teen area so it may be easier to provide suggestions!)

Skype Meeting

We will be having our next meeting on Monday. Oct 25 @ 8:30 on Skype to discuss Part 2 of the Strategic Plan. There is no need to set up a camera for this meeting we will just be chatting. I sent out a e-mail earlier in the week stating what things need to be completed at the next meeting. Please have these items ready for discussion- thanks!

SKYPE

I wanted to use Skype for our next team meeting which will hopefully take place next Monday evening. So far it looks like 3 out the 5 members are available to meet then.
If you haven't used Skype before please take some time to familiarize yourself with the program.
I just set it up yesterday and it was quite simple with the exception of adding contacts. I even was able to do a test run with Peter last night. Please contact Peter or I if you need help with adding contacts.

One more part to go!

Whew.... Part 1 is over. I am glad things were finally able to come together. Thanks for those of you who went back in last minute to make some APA changes. It certainly shows how committed you were to the final outcome of the project.

READY FOR REVIEW

I have been viewing some postings on Google docs and have contacted Peter to see his preferences about how he would like the parts of the paper to be posted. I will be posting my completed parts as they are finished. I know some of you may want to post items in google docs that shows what you are working on at this point. That is certainly fine.... however Peter let me know that he will only receive an official e-mail when the document is initially posted.
If you are going into google docs and working on the paper and finish it in google docs Peter will not be alerted when it is ready for review. Please fire Peter an e-mail message stating that your section is "Ready for Review."even if it is your completed post that you put on their initially. (ie: me) I certainly think it would be much easier if you just posted your completed sections and Peter can get straight to editing but I also understand that everyone has a different way of working on an assignment.

Touching Base/ Name of Library

Hi team #4,
Just touching base to see how you are doing on the assignment.
Just to avoid any confusion the official name of the Library that we are using for this assignment is the Georgina Cole Library. I believe I have been referring to it as the Cole Library in our meetings, which is what employees call it. For the strategic plan we should all be referring to it as the Georgina Cole Library.
